Cova Matcha & Coffee

If there's one thing we made sure to look for in Cape Town, it was a good matcha. Somewhere along the way we found Cova Matcha & Coffee, a small, aesthetic café tucked away on St John's Road in Sea Point.

Cova is the kind of place that catches your attention before you've even ordered. It's intimate, minimal and beautifully put together, with that effortless Cape Town café aesthetic that makes you want to sit down, take a few pictures and stay a little longer.

What we like about Cova is that they don't treat matcha like it has to be serious. The menu plays with flavours and textures, from the Shoreline Vanilla Matcha with pink coconut cold foam to maple sea-salt and other creative combinations. It's less a traditional bowl of matcha and more a fun, indulgent café experience. And if you're travelling with someone who isn't a matcha person, Cova does coffee too.

There are treats as well, a little selection of matcha-inspired desserts and pastries, including matcha cookies and matcha milk cake, with the matcha cookie getting plenty of love. It's not a huge café, more of a small, carefully designed matcha stop you can easily add to a Sea Point day, a short walk from the promenade and the ocean.
