Rules of Engagement
- 1Respect everyone's views and opinions. We will not all agree, and that's perfectly fine. You can disagree without belittling anyone. Listen to understand, not just to respond.
- 2Challenge the opinion, not the person. Debate the argument and defend your position. Personal attacks, insults, mockery and attempts to embarrass anyone are not acceptable.
- 3If you're judgemental, this might not be the event for you. Come with an open mind. This is not a space to shame people for thinking differently.
- 4Respect the space. Be mindful of your words, your reactions and how you make others feel. Everyone deserves to enjoy the experience.
- 5Keep it controversial, not cruel. Your hot take can be bold, unpopular, funny or thought-provoking, but hateful or discriminatory remarks will not be entertained.
- 6Give everyone a chance to speak. Keep to your allocated time, avoid interrupting, and let people finish before you respond.
- 7What is shared in the room stays respectful. Don't share another attendee's private moments outside the gathering, and ask before recording or posting someone.
- 8Be ready to defend your take. Come prepared with your presentation and reasoning. You can stand by your opinion, change your mind, or agree to disagree.
- 9Have fun! This is a social gathering, not a courtroom. Laugh, learn something new and enjoy the conversations.
PS: You don't have to agree with everyone in the room, but you do have to respect everyone in the room. Different opinions. Mutual respect. One shared space.
